Special Enrollment Periods

Missed Open Enrollment? A life change may open the door.

A Special Enrollment Period lets you enroll in or change a Marketplace plan outside Open Enrollment, usually within 60 days after a qualifying life event. Timing matters, so act soon after the change.

Common questions

Know what to expect.

General education only. Exact options require an individual review.

What if my event was more than 60 days ago?

You may have to wait for Open Enrollment unless another qualifying event applies. Call to check your dates before assuming you missed it.

Do I need proof of my life event?

Often, yes. The Marketplace may ask for documents such as a coverage termination letter or proof of a move.

Can I change plans during a Special Enrollment Period?

Some events let you change plans and some only let you enroll. The rules depend on the event and your current coverage.
